Ernie, Tristan, Sophia and Bert (‘our trusty stead’)

I love today’s story!  Meet Tristan & Ernie from Gillette.  Their story is so sweet and touching, and I’m happy that they are letting us share it (thanks guys!).  What really touched my heart is how their love has been written in the stars — and brought a peace to Tristan’s heart… I’ll be quiet now and let her tell the story:

I met my fiance 14 years ago. He was nothing more than an annoying ranch hand. Being a few years older than him, I had no interest and was so mean! From there he grew into an even more annoying teen with a dirt bike, then grew into a fancy Ford pickup. He never failed to make a point to come say hello, and I never failed to make it clear I was FAR from interested! Years later and plenty of mistakes for both of us, our paths crossed again. I couldn’t believe the kid I’d written off had grown into such a handsome man. That night he asked me to dance and he was so nervous! Then one night standing in the corrals under a perfect summer sky he looked at me and said “I think I’ve loved you my whole life”. Who would have thought he would be the one to swoop in and pick up the pieces to my – at the time, very broken life. He has been the most amazing blessing to both mine and my daughter’s life.

Okay, seriously, I was in tears reading this and got chills. Not lying. I just love stories like this — and I’m very excited for their future together as a family.  Their wedding is coming up June 2 2012, and they have shared some sweet pictures with it — I love these because they capture those intimate moments that are full of emotion…

From Tristan:  “This is Ernie and my daughter. A stolen moment that captures just how much they mean to each other.”

Tristan & Ernie at Gulches of Fun in SD…

Thanks guys for sharing your story with us!  It is beautiful and so touching…and we wish you the best of luck as you journey into your new future together!

Today’s engagement spotlight comes from Leather-n-Lace Photography in Evanston — Lacee does a FABULOUS job, and she’s such a sweetie. Honestly — she just is a joy to be around. I adore getting emails from Lacee, she’s just bubbly and fun and that comes across in her photography as well!

Our couple today is Sami & Ryan. They are both native Wyomingites — born and raised in Evanston!  Their June 9th wedding ceremony will take place at the Timpanogas Temple in American Fork Utah, with a luncheon at Thanksgiving Point Utah.  They’re planning a reception at home in Evanston later that night at the Stake Center.

I love these!

Thanks Sami & Ryan for letting us shine a spotlight on your engagement — and to Lacee of Leather-n-Lace Photography in Evanston for letting us share these fantastic images!  A couple more, I love these…

SHOESDAY TUESDAY: Shoe Clips!

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE & FIND A WY VENDOR! www.wyoweddings.com

Anyone that knows our family knows that we don’t really prescribe to functional fixedness — i.e., using one thing for one purpose and one purpose only.  As I’ve said before, I prescribe to Alton Brown’s theory that ‘The only multitasker is a fire extinguisher.’  Our kids have adopted this same idea — yesterday the metal wand for the triangle in the musical instrument box became a key to a magical room and a light saber…

So when it comes to convertible FASHION, I get all SORTS of excited!!! Convertible Miche bag purses, LOVE them, and when I heard of SHOE CLIPS, my heart skipped a beat.  We talk about some fun and funky shoe fashion around here, from trendy to flashy to kickin’ cowgirl boots and shoes with feathers…but shoe clips are tres chic because you can make any pair of shoes fab in an instant.  And when it comes to your wedding, wearing shoes that are comfortable (and perhaps not new!) is a great thing — dress them up with new shoe clips and voila! Brand new foot bling!

Here are a few examples that we found out there…but Etsy is FULL of fun shoe clip crafters and ideas too — more than we could possibly think about including in this blog post…

So adorable and delicate!

Shoe bling-alicious!

Absolutely Audrey, “Sabrina”, www.smashingdarling.com

I have some shoes just like this, these bows are going on my wish list…

Absolutely Audrey, “Brooke”, www.absolutelyaudrey.com

Okay, seriously, I am totally digging these peacock feathers…

So I hear the boot-wearing brides out there saying it:  “WHAT ABOUT BOOTS?!?!?!”  I say wear these with boots! The beauty of shoe clips is they can go anywhere — sure there are a lot pictures on the toe of the shoe, but why not clip them on the side of the boot?  Especially for those adorable bridesmaid combos of short dress and cowgirl boots — I think a little bit of bling or a big flower could be pretty darn cute!  If there are some pics of this floating out there, I’d love to see them and share them if we could!

Here’s a couple more, that I think would look smashing on the outside of a boot…

Absolutely Audrey, “Chloe” in white, www.absolutelyaudrey.com

Absolutely Audrey, “Juliette”, www.absolutelyaudrey.com

Obviously, Absolutely Audrey is a darling brand with absolutely TONS to offer!  And looking at their website gave me a great idea:  these make FABULOUS bridesmaid gifts!  They can wear them on their shoes/boots now and in the future, but also clip them to their bags, hats, scarves, you name it — talk about a versatile gift!  The prices are pretty darn reasonable too!

Remember, if you have a tip/idea/question you’d like to submit, we’d love to hear from you!  We’re always looking for inspiration for our blog and social media pages — post on our Facebook page or email to brides@wyomingweddingsonline.com!  We’re also always looking for wedding and engagement spotlights as well!

‘Til Next Time…I’m forwarding this blog post to my husband with a note that says ‘Mother’s Day, birthday, Christmas ideas…GO!”

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: After posting this, Crisa from Absolutely Audrey posted on this page and offered the following promotion — thanks so much Crisa! 🙂  “Kati thank you for featuring my Absolutely Audrey shoe clips in your article! We are also head over heels with shoe flowers, rhinestone buckles, sparkling shoe bows you name it. For all of your readers I am offering a 15% discount an all orders at http://www.absolutelyaudrey.com. Coupon Code: WYOSHOES15
Thanks again and happy shoe clipping!

Every week we shine a spotlight on one of our fabulous Wyoming vendors — this week we want to give a shout out to our AWESOME friends in Cheyenne.  Keith Turbitt is an amazing photographer, and his wife Erin is a super-talented graphic designer.  Together they form the creative team of Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine and Wyoming Weddings, and we couldn’t appreciate them more.  BUT, today we’re taking a look at what they do aside from their work with us — photography!

From real estate to weddings, baby, senior, family and maternity portraits, Keith covers a little bit of everything.  His artistic vision is astounding, and he puts his all into his work.  When you work with Keith, you get a special attention to detail — one of the things we love about working with him!  His detail shots are my favorite:  whether it’s an element of the decor, or that special little happy smile he captures when someone’s not looking…the true beauty of the day shines through.

Check out Keith’s work here and on his website:  www.shutter-vision.com — and be sure to find him on Facebook!

Visit Keith’s website and experience his vision for yourself!  Be sure to visit our vendor directory to find Keith and other fabulous Wyoming wedding vendors!  And be sure to add your engagement announcement by the end of May — we’ll be drawing a couple from our engagement list to receive a pair of Wyoming Weddings ‘Mr.’ & ‘Mrs.’ or ‘Bride’ & ‘Groom’ bucking bronc travel bags! WEDDING WEDNESDAY: Cheyenne Engagement Spotlight!

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE & FIND A WY VENDOR! www.wyoweddings.com

It’s Wedding Wednesday — the day that we spotlight a beautiful Wyoming couple, either engaged or newly married!  Today we have a fun engagement story from Cheyenne — and a darn cute photo op from Serendipity Photogenics in Cheyenne that I just adore…note that the date of their upcoming wedding (May 28) is represented by the cards in the picture…

This adorable couple is Gretchen Hobson and Nick Morrison.  I love their sweet story — as Gretchen puts it, “Nothing romantic, just a simple ‘Boy Meets Girl, Girl Kisses Boy, We don’t want to spend any part of our lives with out the other’!”  (Well, Gretchen, I have to disagree on one thing — this is ABSOLUTELY romantic!  I love this story!)

From Gretchen:

“I was taking my brother James out for his birthday and he asked if his house mate could come along. I said “Sure I’ll be by to pick you two up in about 20 minutes.” I got to the house, rang the door bell and Nick opened the door.  We looked at each other and smiled. I suddenly felt giddy like a school girl and knew that I was sporting the cheesiest grin and was doing my best to hid it.  When we got to the restaurant Nick opened the doors for me, pulled my chair out and listened to every word I said. At the end of the dinner the group, which had grown to 5, left. Nick and I were so busy talking to each other that we both left our take home on the table.  And that was the end of it. It was October and the snow had not started to fall yet.

A few months later, in December, I called my brother to see if he wanted to go to dinner. We ate and chatted and he told me that Nick was looking to sell his gun safe. I asked if we could look at it that night. James texted Nick and he said “sure”. When we got back to the house Nick was asleep and I looked at it and thought “Yeah, why not!”

James texted me later in the week that Nick would sell it to me and gave me Nick’s cell phone number with the warning “Nick really likes you so be nice!”  Nick and I began texting back and forth on that Saturday. I asked if he wanted to join me that night as I played Darts. He said he couldn’t and that he had a party to go to. A few minutes later he asked if I wanted to go with him. I said “Sure!” And we have been together ever since. The only nights we have spent apart is when one of us has been out of town for work.”

Nick’s proposal reportedly went roughly something like this:  “So, I was thinking and I was wondering if you would marry me? I have this ring….” I love that!  It’s so sweet and so real!  I love hearing proposal stories — they always make me smile.  My dad’s proposal to my mom was rather funny — he took her to the drive-in (the it thing to do in the 70’s in Kearney NE) and he was so nervous that he was chugging iced tea like nobody’s business.  He finally screwed up he courage to ask her, and she said yes — and his reply? “Oh good, because I REALLY have to pee!” LOL…yup, that’s my dad. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your story, Gretchen & Nick! I love to hear about that excitement that comes when you’re first attracted to someone. Such a beautiful thing!  Gretchen & Nick will be married in Cheyenne, and we can’t wait to see the wedding pictures!  Gretchen and Nick are both involved in the Cheyenne community:  Gretchen volunteers with Cheyenne Frontier Days, and Nick is in the National Guard — thank you for your service, Nick!

Congratulations to you both — sounds like a beautiful event!

‘Til Next Time…I’d love to hear more about YOU!

INSPIRATION: Cocktails!

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE & FIND A WY VENDOR! www.wyoweddings.com

One reception trend is the cocktail — set up with the bar ahead of time, the drink of choice is provided for the guests.  Now, whether you charge for said drink or give it away, in my opinion, is up to you — a cash bar is always popular, and I for one would venture to guess that a lovely sign with the reception’s cocktail of choice and price would sell quite well.  But, if you’d like to treat your guests, a drink on the house is always popular!

Photo by Charles Walton IV; Styling by Buffy Hargett; www.myrecipes.com

As we know, there are as many cocktail recipes out there as there are opinions on how you should be planning your wedding. 🙂 Below are a few awesome websites to check out for some recipe inspiration — and be sure to scroll to the bottom, as we discuss our own summer cocktail recipe and some fabulous Wyoming resources!

How do you want to display your cocktail?  If you want to have a bit of fun and make the cocktail part of your atmosphere, purchase your own glasses — they can be fabulous take-home gifts to your guests!  (For the budget-conscious, yes this might make you faint of heart — perhaps consider this for a small wedding, an outdoor event, or do some shopping online to find purchases in bulk.  Another great option? Garage sales and flea markets! A eclectic mix of mismatched glasses would be tres chic for a garden-style reception or fun & funky modern vibe!)

Here’s a look I LOVE — I’m imagining outdoor weddings, garden themes, and of course western weddings — but I’m sure any theme could adapt this idea easily…the Mason jar…

Of course, we are WYOMING Weddings for a reason — we’re here to promote all that’s fabulous for weddings in Wyoming! How cool would it be to support all sorts of WY businesses with your big event?!  If you want a hometown splash (no pun intended) at your reception, there are some fabulous wine and spirit manufacturers in Wyoming that you can incorporate into your reception’s cocktail:

http://tablemountainvineyards.com/ — Table Mountain Vineyards:  Made in Huntley, WY, owner Patrick Zimmerer is passionate about both Wyoming and wine.  His blog contains fun and unique recipes using his wine.  Look for the recipes, or just ask your bartender to stock TMV for your wedding! (*Check out Patrick’s educational and entertaining columns in every issue of our sister magazine, Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine!)

http://www.irvincellarwinery.com/ — Irvin Cellar Winery:  In Riverton, the Irvin Cellar Winery is a fun place to explore wine!  Check out their website for their options, including some fantastic fruit wines! They also have a wine club!

http://www.koltsfinespirits.com/ — Koltiska Fine Spirits:  This family business operates out of Sheridan, WY, and do they love what they do! The family works together to create their amazing product.  That is just COOL — and 100% Wyoming! (*Check out our Drink of Summer 2011, coming out in our summer issue of Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine soon — containing Koltiska and created by the MAGICAL Cece Tolin of Vintage Fine Wine & Martini Bar in Casper!)

http://www.wyomingwhiskey.com/ — Wyoming Whiskey:  We know what you’re going to say:  they’re not ready yet! That’s okay — we still are excited to promote this up-and-coming Kirby, Wyoming business!  It’ll be a few years still until they’re ready to release product, but keep up with these guys — it’ll be super exciting when they’re ready to release!

WEDDING WEDNESDAY: Jackson Destination with Flair!

Max & Cecile’s destination Jackson wedding was gorgeous — and full of their own touches and personality!  Max & Cecile have friends worldwide, and felt that Jackson made the best choice for their destination wedding.  “Deciding on a location was difficult, since both of our families are widely distributed in the United States and Europe,” Cecile writes.  “{W}e decided that Jackson, Wyoming, would be an unforgettable one to which many guests would be more than willing to travel. It was also the location that best represented our personalities!”

Thanks to Heather Erson Photography in Jackson for sharing these amazing photos and to Max & Cecile for sharing their story!

OK, so check this out:  The dress was purchased the week before Max & Cecile moved from San Diego to Switzerland — she had never tried it on or altered it before the wedding day! Look at how BEAUTIFUL it is on her — talk about a dress MADE for someone! (WOW!)

Their beautiful ceremony was held in a friend’s meadow overlooking Jackson.  Friends Bland Hoke and Mark Dunstan created the aspen tree arch.

From Cecile:  “From our experience, wedding cakes were beautiful, but often didn’t taste as good as they looked, so we opted for wedding pies instead. Each table had a different kind of fruit pie as a center piece, and the main pie was set up close to the stage. The pies looked beautiful, as though straight out of a French bakery – our guests loved the idea!”

We blogged recently on fun reception gift & entertainment ideas (click on ‘Inspiration’ then ‘Gift Your Guests!’), and this is a fantastic idea!  From Cecile:

“My sister organized a game in the middle of the dancing, which I believe should become a tradition. It was a mixture of musical chairs and a scavenger hunt. Twelve guests were to sit in the center of the stage and were given the name of an item that, when the music stopped, they would have to retrieve before being able to sit back down to (n-1) chairs. Each “loser” would be responsible for a certain month of the year to carry out a task or favor in honor of the couple. One who was responsible for December sent us a care package in Switzerland full of local goodies we missed!”
Thanks to Max & Cecile for sharing their day with us, and to Heather Erson Photography in Jackson for supplying us with these AMAZING photos!
