WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Erika & Nathan’s Sweetwater County Wedding

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE:  www.wyoweddings.com

Nathan & Erika’s wedding on September 10, 2011 (9-10-11!) was held at two great Sweetwater County locations — the ceremony took place at Expedition Island in Green River, with the reception at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs.  Their photography was captured by the amazing David Huber of Worland.  Erika has some great bits to share from the day and check out their images — REALLY cool ideas, especially the Cold Stone buffet for dessert! (LOVE that!)

Erika’s memories of the day…

Ice Cream Bar:  We aren’t really ‘cake’ people and while at a bridal show in SLC, I discovered Cold Stone’s catering options.  Once back in Rock Springs, I proposed the same possibility at our local branch.  We worked with the store manager to create our own serving options at the reception.  The reviews from our guests were glowing!  Everyone loved creating their own ice cream dessert using our favorites 🙂  especially the kids.

One of my favorite memories: We planned to do a fun dancing entrance into the reception with our line.  After the rehearsal dinner, we did a practice run with music at the hall and the idea didn’t go over well.  However, when we arrived to the reception hall after the ceremony, everyone was in their places and Nathan and I were able to watch them enter into the hall to the dance floor.  It was FANTASTIC!  The kids started it off with a lot of excitement and each pair that followed had their own choreographed routine created in less than 24 hours.  The guests loved it and it was a wonderful way to jump start the party.  A vision I will never forget.

Another item I will never forget are the poms!  It took a large group effort to make all of the 160 colorful tissue paper poms that covered the reception ceiling.  Two days of folding, cutting and prepping the colorful design with family members.  Then an entire day of ‘poofing’ and hanging the poms around the hall with our great groomsmen and bridesmen.  We were all sick of them by the time we were done, but it was worth it to have my vision come true!  Now the poms are a running joke among our friends and family.

Our ceremony at Expedition Island was set up by the men of the wedding party – groomsmen, bridesmen, fathers and the groom.  I gave them the pieces and they designed it all and turned out beautifully!  Even better than I had imagined.

When I was a kid, I would watch the Charlie Brown “Great Pumpkin” special every year… If you’re a Charlie Brown fan like I am, you appreciate both the magic of a pumpkin and the little love stories that surround them.

Linus, Sally and The Great Pumpkin

So I thought of Charlie Brown instantly when I saw pumpkin centerpieces for weddings…talk about a poetic Linus moment!  Autumn weddings are a perfect time to find pumpkins and other members of the family Cucurbitaceae (save that for your next Trivial Pursuit match, it’ll come in handy!)  for your reception.  Check out this bit of inspiration…from your initials to designs to just simply arranging pumpkins with items such as Bittersweet, cranberries, even something as simple as maple leaves…talk about centerpieces on a budget! Love it!

Mmmm, of course pumpkins make me crave pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread & muffins and whipped cream. But that’s another blog…

This week we have an engagement spotlight instead of a wedding spotlight — I LOVE engagement photos! Talk about a unique and fun way to capture your love pre-marriage. Twelve years later, our engagement pictures are still framed and enjoyed.  Kate Williams of The Rancher’s Wife’s Photography in Southeast Wyoming has sent us today’s spotlight — I’ll let her share a little about Amber & Joe and check out these awesome images! You can also find The Rancher’s Wife’s Photography on Facebook!

From Kate:  Joe & Amber will be married in the spring (May 2012). They are such a loving, happy couple. I think it shows through in their images. He asked her to marry him at the top of Kennedy Peak on Sept 12, 2011.

Thanks to The Rancer’s Wife’s Photography for sending us this week’s spotlight — if you have a spotlight you’d like to share, please contact us at brides@wyomingweddingsonline.com — if you’re the bride, groom or the photographer, doesn’t matter – we’d love to hear from you!  Engagement or wedding!

From Sara… You’re getting married. I’m holding a camera. But how do we know if we’re a match made in heaven? Well, let’s get acquainted…

ME:

I can’t sit still. I notice the way light and shadows move across a person’s face and get so distracted by beautiful, sad, sexy, and lonely things, I often catch myself staring. Then I blush.  I’m passionate about dark chocolate. And vodka. I am obsessed with film noir, indie music and vintage hats. My camera is the way I connect with and hide from people, and the medium I use to tell stories and secrets. I swear in Portuguese. I always eat one too many slices of pizza.

YOU:

You’re crazy about someone you plan to spend a lifetime loving and fighting with. You aren’t into traditional weddings, traditional anything. You have impeccable taste.  “Say cheese” makes you cringe.  Or scowl. Or club baby seals. You have absolutely no intention of paying attention to the photographer on your wedding day. You will be dancing your butt off, blissful in the knowledge that your perfectly imperfect love story is being captured by an artist who would never, ever make your bridal portrait all black-and-white, except for the bright, red, photo-shopped rose bouquet.

In some alternate universe, you and I were probably friends. You probably did something really nice for me once – like bake me cookies – so I’m super-excited to do something nice for you in return.

Thanks to Mindy of Chai Photography in Cheyenne for providing us with this week’s wedding spotlight!  Emma & Tim were married in May 2011 at the Community House in Lion’s Park in Cheyenne.  They had an emotional-filled day surrounded by family and friends from across the country.  Mindy is a details-oriented girl after my own heart — I love what she did to capture the moments of this day! (And be sure to check out the image of Tim with his dad — the story I heard is that Tim is wearing his new wife’s garter, and his father is wearing his wife’s garter as well. Say it with me: AWWWWW!) 🙂

Thanks to Amanda & Aaron, and their photography Sarah McBride-Kramer of McBride-Kramer Photography in Evanston, for sharing our spotlight this week!  Aaron & Amanda are from different parts of the state — Aaron is from Casper and Amanda is from Evanston — and they chose a unique Wyoming location that held significance for them…I’ll let Amanda tell their story…

Aaron and I met at Casper College in 2004. He was going to school for his Engineering Degree and I was working on an Associates Degree in Applied Science. Aaron proposed five years later in Cheyenne, WY at the state capital. At that time he was attending the University of Wyoming. Both of us are born and raised in Wyoming so we knew that we wanted to get married in Wyoming in the mountains. We thought about Jackson Hole but decided that the Big Horn Mountains would be the best place as his grandfather lived in Buffalo and we wanted him to be able to attend. Grandpa took us all over the Mountain and we decided on a cute little place called South Fork Lodge — we were married on July 16, 2011!
