Newly Engaged in Wyoming: Where to Begin?

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE:  www.wyoweddings.com

Our Sister Publications:  Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine — www.wyolifestyle.com Wyovore — www.wyovore.com WYO XY — http://www.wyolifestyle.com/WYOXY/index.html

If you’re newly engaged, CONGRATS! This is one of the most special experiences of your life — enjoy it and relish every second, even if many of those seconds come with stress.  Sound crazy? I know — but trust me, take the stresses in stride and work through them. Your wedding day will come together regardless of the stress, and after it’s all said and done, your memories will be what remain.  So focus on the good memories and work through the stressful — and don’t let it get you down! Guaranteed, SOMETHING will be a stressor while going through the planning process. And that’s okay!

But you’re not thinking about stressors at the moment — you’re thinking about where to BEGIN. It’s hard! Do you start with setting your date, or finding the perfect dress? Picking the colors or sampling cakes?  The best thing I can advise you is to think about what kind of wedding you want, and what details will be the hardest to come by.  Those vendors that service just one or two weddings a day:  most typically, your venues (ceremony and reception), photographers, videographers, DJ/music selections, in some cases caterers and cake bakers… THOSE items are the ones you want to make sure you book and make down payments on right away.  In Wyoming, our selection of venues can be limited, so be sure to get right on the ball booking your location.  In some cases, this may determine your date — OR, if you have a specific date in mind, it’ll help you nail down that date at your perfect location! (Believe me, this came in handy with our wedding — we had our hearts set on a date, and booked our venue well in advance — a year or so later, I happened to meet the bride who wanted the same date at our venue — and had been disappointed to learn I had booked it so far in advance! I felt bad, but at the same time…I knew that was going to happen in Laramie, WY!)

Other details — the dress, your rings, flowers, in some cases cake bakeries and the like — will need to be high on your priority list, but many of these places service more than one wedding a day, giving you some flexibility for scheduling. Once you get those limited services secured, the rest can be taken care of — and believe me, you’ll breathe MUCH easier!

Another great festive addition is green…red roses with greenery and caramel accents would be beautiful, but also the light green of pears…

Here’s another interesting idea — pairing caramel with blue…

For neutrals, white and black are both good complements.  Chocolate brown, of course being the universal neutral, also would be great here…

WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: David & Caroline’s Theater Wedding

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE & FIND A WY VENDOR:  www.wyoweddings.com

Thanks to Stephanie of Wainscott Wedding Photography and David & Caroline for providing this week’s wedding spotlight! These two used their love of theater — a theme throughout their relationship — to create a wedding that truly represented them. They held their wedding at the Laramie Plains Civic Center — an icon of Laramie history.  The building’s roots are in education, serving as Laramie’s city school in the late 1800’s and then moving to the Laramie High School, and later the Laramie Junior High School.  The Junior High School moved to its current location in 1979, which shifted the Civic Center’s function to community office spaces and facility rentals.  Today, the building is managed by a new group of enthusiastic leaders who are transforming the building, bringing back its historical significance and expanding its influence in the community.  David is the Civic Center’s Theater Manager and he allows me to bug him regularly. 🙂  I was personally very excited to see a wedding being held at the historic theater — what a neat idea!  To read about the Laramie Plains Civic Center and their transformation process, please visit our Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine’s website & read our fall 2011 issue online…click on ‘Current Issue’ or ‘Back Issues’ after December 2011… www.wyolifestyle.com.  But enough blabbing about history (one of my favorite topics) — we’re here to talk about David & Caroline!  I’ll let Caroline tell their story…

David proposed on a cold, snowy night in December 2010 while I had a miserable cold. I’d love to say it was romantic, but it really wasn’t. It was mainly because he was afraid he would lose the ring before Christmas, which was his original intention to propose then. It did help me feel a little better though, even with the cold. We set the date for September 10, 2011, mainly because I figured it would be harder to forget 9-10-11. Things all seemed to go right at first, things got done so quickly, my only sticking point was on a photographer since I was on a budget. Stephanie was out of Cheyenne, but agreed to drive over for the wedding, and even when they were moving she was still wonderful! We decided on the Civic Center Theatre for our wedding since we had a connection with Dave working there, but also because theatre has been a continuing theme throughout our lives. We met through theatre at Casper College and theatre brought him back to me after seven years without seeing each other.  Wainscott Wedding Photography took  beautiful pictures! It was a beautiful wedding and will be a day I always remember.

PLANNING INSPIRATION!

Thanks to Lindsey Taylor of Toot Sweet! Event Planning Services in Cheyenne for providing us with this bit of planning inspiration!

Congratulations! You’re Getting Married!  Now What?  Time for the planning.  Planning for your wedding can be joyous and stressful. You’re excited to get married and have a ton of ideas but there is also a to do list.  When in doubt enlist help. Your family and friends are often there to help you throughout the planning.  Here are some helpful tips to help you get a start on planning for the big day.

Tip:  Think about what you and the love of your life want for your wedding. Does this include a special place, a food, a color, a song, etc.  Write them all down. It may be a good idea to get a notebook for all of your wedding stuff so it is not everywhere.

Tip: While you are deciding on the date make a list of venues that you want the ceremony and or the reception to be held at. Prioritize them if possible. This way if your first choice is unavailable you have a backup in place.  Another consideration is to call the venues to see what their available dates are before setting the date. This idea is great for those who have their hearts set on a particular place.

Tip: To have a wedding consultant or not to have one…  This completely depends on the bride and what she needs. Consultants can help you with all or a portion of the wedding. For instance, you know exactly what you want for the ceremony but you really need help with the reception portion of it. Many Consultants and event services have A La Carte services that be created into a package that is suited for your needs.  Do not wait until the last minute if you decide you want a consultant’s help. Their cost will be higher for the rush.

Tip: The Dress! The search for the perfect dress begins. Do you have an idea of what you want and is it within your budget? If you are planning to shed some pounds for the day start now.  It is easier to take in a dress than it is to let it out.  Many brides when selecting their undergarments do not think of how they will..um hum…use the facilities while in the dress. The wedding day schedule is usually tight and often there is not a half an hour planned for the bride to get completely out of the dress and back into it.

Tip: Enjoy the planning and the time you get to spend with your friends and family. Make sure to take time for yourself but the love of your life too.

Thanks to Lindsey of Toot Sweet! Personal Assistant and Planning Services for the information!  Her passion is to help others lives be simpler and make your special events or Big day be memorable.  She can help you with the design of your wedding, or  just help with the little things to make it easier.
