Whenever I hear someone say “I LOVE gold!” I can’t help but think of  Goldmember from Austin Powers… 🙂 OK, that was off-topic — but gold can be a snazzy color for your wedding! Check out these inspiration images below — whether you call it gold, or champagne, the antique feel creates both a sophisticated and ethereal quality. Beautiful for outdoor weddings (lets the natural colors really shine!) but also equally lovely for indoor weddings and receptions with lots of warm light (think candlelight and white Christmas lights!)  Check out the images below for more inspiration…

What colors do you pair with antique gold? White & cream are natural choices…the gold plays beautifully with a rich cream color. Flowers in whites & creams are easy to find and can be a gorgeous choice. The green in the flower stems make a natural compliment. You can also include a rich purple, navy, or perhaps a touch of blush pink or light blue for a sweet feel. Gold is a rich neutral, so beware of the overall feel you’re going for! Do you want warm and elegant, something that embraces a heavy color palette? Purples and navies might be just right. Something sweet and flirty? Blush pink or light blue might be a great choice. And of course, my go-to favorite favorite favorite…chocolate brown! Mmmm…

WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Caitie & Grant’s Beautiful Ivinson Wedding

Thanks to Keith Turbitt’s Shutter-Vision Photography in Cheyenne for providing us with this week’s spotlight! Caitie & Grant were married August 4 in Laramie, at the beautiful and historic Ivinson Mansion. I used to work as a docent at the mansion in junior high, leading tours of people from all over the globe and sharing our fascinating Laramie history. The home was built in 1890 as the planned Governor’s Mansion for then candidate Edward Ivinson, a prominent businessman and leader in the Laramie community. While his bid was unsuccessful, the gorgeous mansion remained and he and his wife Jane spent many years in the beautiful home.  The home became a girls’ school and served various capacities for decades after the deaths of Jane and Edward, and an enthusiastic committee saved the home from becoming another relic of the past back almost 40 years ago.  Today, the beautiful museum is not only a place of Laramie history and pride, but also a gorgeous location for breathtaking weddings!

Enough for the history lesson. My apologies — the history geek in me surfaced yet again. 🙂 Keith said this was a beautiful day, filled with lots of energy and fun people — and I think these photos prove it! CONGRATS to Caitie & Grant, and thanks to Keith for sharing this beautiful day with us — I love these images!

WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Kjera & Jacob’s Dubois Wedding

Our sister publications:  Wyoming Lifestyle Magazine:  www.wyolifestyle.com Wyovore:  www.wyovore.com

Thanks to Kjera & Jacob for sending us their wedding story! Lots of beautiful images from Arnica Spring Photography follow, and Kjera has shared some wonderful details from their day — including what made their day ‘green’! This wedding was held October 2009, but as is the case with fall in Wyoming, snowfall enveloped the scene! With winter weddings just around the corner, we’re thrilled to see how Kjera & Jacob incorporated the snow and wintry weather into their beautiful autumn event… What a great wedding, filled with love, personal touches and tradition…(I’m in love with those specialized drinks they served!)

Jacob and I met at a Willie Nelson concert at the base of Snow King Resort in Jacob’s hometown of Jackson, Wyoming. Two years later, he proposed while we were floating the Snake River in our raft. We set our wedding date for the following October 10 allowing Jacob to finish his season on the Teton Helitack crew fighting wildfires and taking advantage of my long weekend celebrating Columbus Day and Día de the Raza from the Journeys School where I am an elementary school Spanish teacher. We settled on Triangle C Ranch in Dubois after exploring other options around Jackson and wanting to give our guests a unique (and affordable!) Wyoming experience. Jacob’s family has been long time friends with the owners of the ranch. As our family and friends began to descend upon Wyoming, the wintery weather descended as well. The morning of our wedding greeted us with zero degree temperatures and a foot and a half of fresh snow. Our outdoor ceremony was moved into the lodge, although we decided to still get married on the deck in glittering snow. Thanks to hard work and flexibility all of our family and friends, guests enjoyed a one-of-a-kind wedding celebration. From the cleansing sage ceremony to the anniversary dance honoring Jacob’s grandparents, the wedding day was packed with personalized touches. Children enjoyed a room of their own decked out with a horse pinata, cowboy hats and lots of arts and crafts. We dined on beef from our family ranch, butternut squash soup from aunt’s and uncle’s gardens, a mashed potato bar with all the trimmings (served in margarita glasses!) and chocolate and pumpkin desserts prepared by friends. We sipped “The Jacob”, a Jack Daniels and Dr. Pepper creation, “The Kjera”, a huckleberry margarita, local wines, Snake River Brewery’s OB1 organic beer, Mountain Meadow raspberry lemonade and Henrie homemade root beer. We danced the night away to the bluegrass tunes of Steam Powered Airplane and classics from Kjera’s ipod. Although it has been two years since that magical day, people continue to tell their personal stories of adventure, love and laughter . . . and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks to Abbydell Photography in Jackson for providing our color inspiration — RED!  Red is such a bold and emotion-evoking color. It can stand alone, it can pop against neutrals such as white (or my always favorite neutral, chocolate brown), but it can also look sweet with pink, fiery with orange, powerful with blue and white, dramatic and romantic with black… Red just looks you in the face and challenges you not to feel emotion with it. So do you take the challenge? Do you take on RED and all that it can do for you?  Abby says YES!!! And here’s her dose of RED inspiration for us…thanks Abby!

Is there a more classic autumn color than orange? With the beautiful colors we’ve been seeing in Wyoming in the fall, it’s hard not to tie those in to your wedding decor. But when we think orange…do we have to think retro 70’s dark wood paneling and harvest gold countertops too? Or that carpeting you had as a kid that looked slightly like the Muppet you were watching on TV while you were eating PB&J with the crusts cut off? (Or was that just my house?) 🙂 No! Orange does not need to equal 70’s throwback. Not at all. We’ve found some great inspirational photos…orange you glad? (OK, I had to throw that out there at least once…)

www.wedding-and-receptions-ideas.com

Orange & blue are complementary on the color wheel, meaning they are across from each other. Why is this important? Because complementary colors give instant brightness. If you want to incorporate orange and make it sing with bright, happy tones, consider a icy blue…but be careful! Pick a dominant color and incorporate the second color gradually, to keep from overwhelming your guests. OR, perhaps pick one color to dominate at the reception, and the other color to have the stage at the ceremony…

www.weddingsonthefrenchriviera.com

www.weddingsonthefrenchriviera.com

Another way to give orange a delicious punch is to include raspberry. I do so adore raspberry, it is such a versatile color (who knew, right?!)… Raspberry is warmer and richer than an icy blue, so it will elicit a different feel to your event. Perhaps if raspberry is your dominant color, consider bursts of orange for that unexpected pop of color…

Of course, as I always say, chocolate brown is the universal neutral. I challenge you to find a color that a beautiful, deep, rich chocolate brown will not coordinate with. I just don’t think it can be done. Now in this situation, the challenge may be how to keep orange + chocolate brown out of the 70’s.  While shag may not be back, there is a trend toward the 60’s and 70’s color schemes, with a modern twist…think straight lines and adding pops of chrome to tie in with modern design. The look is urban, funky and fresh — and no harvest gold in sight…

The classic neutral that we’re all familiar with is white. I’m not personally a huge fan of white — but that’s just me. I do, however, stop and go ‘oooooh’ when I see a beautiful cake that pairs white and pops of gorgeous orange…(of course, I love cake in all its manifestations, but this color combo is quite delicious as well…)

Thanks to Julie Livermore Photography in Rawlins for providing our spotlight this week!  These images are so beautiful — and I have to say, I LOVE that Joe wore pink! Way to go Joe — what a beautiful color to give an extra pop to this gorgeous outdoor wedding… I’ll let Julie tell their story:

Nicci and Joe got married on August 27th, 2011 near Jack Creek Ranger Station in the Medicine Bow National Forest — about 25 miles from Saratoga, WY.  Despite the remote location, the couple had around 250 guests in attendance, some who camped nearby for the weekend.  The wedding started out to be a rustic affair in honor of the groom’s love for the great outdoors, but the bride ended up adding some elegant touches…including pink and rhinestones to make it a little more her!  Even with the complex logistics and large bridal party, the couple remained completely serene and happy…with the stunning bride doing her own hair and makeup in a cabin right before the ceremony.

To further make the day theirs — the bridal party DANCED down the asile, all the way down to the arch made by the groom for his bride.  (This is where I have to insert: AWWWW!!!) With the large group of family and friends (including their three beautiful girls) in attendance, we had to sneak out to capture some romantic images of the couple alone.  The evening wasn’t over yet, dinner and dancing (complete with DJ Michael Munari) lasted well into the evening!  It was truly amazing to see everything come together so perfect, in such a remote and breathtaking location!  More images at www.julielivermorephotography.com.

Thanks Julie! What a sweet story…I love it when couples not only bring in their own personalities, but little details for their spouse that add that little extra ‘I love you’ to the day… These images are really fun! Thanks to Nicci & Joe and Julie for letting us share this special day!

Yesterday I was very fortunate to share wedding trends for 2011 on Casper’s KCWY 13 TV, and Hart’s Tux & Gown in Casper provided some beautiful dresses with us to share! One was an lovely apple green one-shoulder bridesmaid dress that got me thinking — this is a GREAT color to share! And I have discovered so many colors that look beautiful paired with it…

What FUN!  All right, there is LOTS of fun to have with apple green — talk about a bright, sunny color that will make you think HAPPY!  Now as for colors to pair with it…I’ve found a few brilliant matches!

First, apple green and PINK…pink is super popular and versatile this year!

Love this!  I absolutely adore how popular pink is this year. Talk about a color that is proving its versatility! In this pairing, pink feels very vibrant and might compete with the apple a little bit for its attention.  They do complement each other well, though, just like kiwis and strawberries or pink roses with ferns.  I like how these pictures use white as the neutral base to allow both these colors to shine.

Here is apple green paired with navy blue…gives it a whole different flavor, and creates a deep and elegant base that allows apple green to be the bright color pop that it is…

From a WY Bride: COLOR INSPIRATION — Silk Blue & Plum

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE: www.wyomingweddingsonline.com

WOW! A Wyoming bride shared that her & her fiance’s upcoming wedding will use silk blue & a dark purple for their colors. I must admit I was naive about the term ‘silk blue’ — she replied that silk blue is also called ‘ice blue’, but I have to say that the term ‘silk’ used with any color is sheer brilliance! Talk about adding the element of not only texture, but LUXURIOUS texture to a color description… And when it comes to your wedding, adding texture and a touch of luxury is never a bad thing… Bravo! And thanks for the color inspiration from this bride — I hadn’t come across this color combo yet and I have to say, it is another fun one!

Here are some bits of inspiration from this color palette…this first picture is a darker shade of blue than silk blue, but I think it also demonstrates the breadth of options you have with this combination…
