WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Jenelle & Clay

Congrats to Jenelle & Clay!

Congrats to Jenelle and Clay, who were married May 27, 2017 in Douglas at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds! Thanks so much to Lacey Dale Photography in Lusk, who shared this gorgeous wedding with us. She had a lot of fun with Jenelle’s desire for black & white photography (although she threw in some color too for us, which I LOVE!), and she loved the emotion in their day. “Clay was the cutest groom ever!” Lacey exclaimed. “He was like a little kid when he saw her for the first time by the river.” (Say it with me — awwww!) 🙂 “They were so family oriented throughout the whole entire day,” Lacey added. “Their friends and family meant everything to them.” LOVE!

Alex & Chelsea’s Lusk Wedding by the Creek

Thank you to Lacey Dale Photography of Lusk, Wyoming for sharing Chelsea & Alex’s day with us! A few details …

Chelsea wore a pleated, strapless, empire waist gown from David’s Bridal — with POCKETS!! SOO COOL! Her shoes were a pair of navy blue Converse Chuck Taylors. Earrings were something borrowed from one of her bridesmaids, and she also wore a bracelet from Alex’s grandmother who passed away. Her sash on her dress was handmade by Alex’s sister Kari Dickson. Alex wore a pair of grey Carhartt pants, a white shirt and pink tie. The location was north of Lusk, Wyoming, on Gravel Pit Road. Donna Ruffing, from Lusk owns a ranch and the couple got married on a creek bottom with a grassy meadow, sandstone wall background and surrounded by cottonwood trees. Alex used to live there, and still likes to go elk hunting on the ranch. Chelsea’s mother walked her down the aisle, with the service performed by Joel Richardson. The reception was held at the well-known Pizza Place in Lusk, owned & operated by Brad and Melissa Wagner — the couple had their first date there, and it’s where Alex proposed to Chelsea.

WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: FLOODING DIDN’T STOP THIS BEAUTIFUL WEDDING…

Thanks to Lacey Dale Photography of Lusk for sharing this wedding with us!

So imagine this … Anne and Andrew were married June 6, 2015, right after the Thursday flash flood in Lusk that took out the overpass on the north side of town (the side heading to Andrew’s family ranch where they planned to be married). THEN, the Niobrara County Fairgrounds were taken over by the Red Cross, National Guard and unfortunate families who lost their homes in the flood took over the reception site … so needless to say, they had to improvise. The Niobrara Country Club, in Lusk, became the new location, and the couple and their families pulled it off beautifully!

Here’s what the bride, Anne, had to say about the rushed change in plans …

“Although the flood caused havoc and destruction, it really showed what the community is about. We had planned to have our wedding at the fairgrounds in the beef barn. Being the planner I am, we set up a lot on Wednesday hoping the rest of the week could be relaxed.  Then we woke up on Thursday morning to find half of the town underwater.  We worked Thursday and Friday, alongside others, cleaning up the town and pumping out basements, and Friday decided we had better figure out where the wedding was going to be.  All roads around Lusk were closed, with no power and no potable water. Nevertheless, we knew we wanted to have our wedding in Lusk, even if our expected 500 weddings guests would only be 50.

“Friday afternoon we found the country club was open, and after a little tweaking with the power, we were set.  Saturday morning we set up for the wedding. We tore everything down at the fairgrounds that we had set up previously, and with the help of many, many family and friends, we set up a tent that a group had lent us.  Our table and chairs and flower people went around road closures signs to get here.  For some unknown reason I decided to do my own flowers (which I had NO experience doing), and a woman that I barely knew, along with some amazing family members and friends, came out of the woodwork to create the centerpieces and bouquets. Our band went around booms and convinced highway patrolmen to let them through. And our guests form Casper (which is where I am from), Nebraska, North Dakota, Colorado, Hawaii, Wisconsin, and everywhere in between traveled different routes and, once again, through road closures to come celebrate. My hair and makeup person spent Saturday morning helping us set up, and hurried to make all of my bridesmaids and myself feel amazing without being a minute late.  People simply showed up to help, my family (which is quite large) all made it, and spent the days leading up, with what we thought would be filled with massages, pedicures, and golf, working their tails off.

“Our photographer was a dear friend of ours, and we were her first wedding experience. She wowed us with her skill, as you can see in the amazing photographs. It turned out to be the best day, and although we had a little rain shower after the ceremony, it brought a double rainbow, which made for a beautiful night. I just really wanted to share our story not necessarily because I want to talk about our wedding, but more I want people to know about this community, our family and friends that helped pull off a day we will never forget.”

Keep scrolling down for lots of gorgeous pictures…

Being the planner I was too when it came to our wedding, I am shuddering at the thought of what Anne & Andrew had to go through! This is an incredible story. Way to improvise guys – the moral of the story is they celebrated their love & marriage, no matter what happened to the best laid plans. Thanks to Lacey Dale Photography for sharing this event with us – and congrats to Anne & Andrew! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

Thank you to Ardent Photography of Laramie for sharing this super fun western wedding with us! Meghan & Dan were married in a blaze of their style…and I’m totally digging it! Floral: Fresh Flower Fantasy – Laramie, WY

Cake: Cakeworks – Cheyenne, WY

Photos: Ardent Photography – Laramie, WY

DJ: American Soundwave – Laramie, WY

There are traditions when it comes to weddings… While tradition definitely has its place we absolutely love clients who focus on making their day unique and special, a real reflection of who they are as a couple. We love weddings full of thoughtful little details as unique as the love that we are hired to photograph. When it comes to being unique, personal and about as untraditional as possible, Meghan and Dan have that down pat!

You might remember the awesome snowmobile engagement session we did with these two. Filled with snow, crazy jumps and bow hunting their photos were far from the normal engagement photos you can browse in our local paper. That is why we weren’t surprised when on their big day their personalities, likes and style shone right on through. We LOVE this wedding. Although Rick and I are self admittedly more of the city slicker type, seeing cowboy culture strewn throughout their decor, attire and atmosphere was an absolute pleasure to photograph. Highlights include their ‘Wyoming Whiskey’ cake, Meghan’s camo gown, the gorgeous way Ruth from Fresh Flower Fantasy incorporated antler sheds into the bouquet and of course who could forget Dan’s custom tux! Did I mention their gorgeous ceremony site which has been in their family for years? Ah I could go on and on but in this case I think it might be best to let their awesome photos do the talking.

PS: We dare you to try pulling off their ‘high five’ kiss… Now that is what you call awesome

Thanks to E&R Photography and Photobooth in Casper for sharing this beautiful engagement shoot with us! Talk about Wyoming western wonderland…I LOVE these creative and beautiful images! Jamie contacted us and shared their story with us…I love a story that includes the phrase “it must’ve been fate…”

Brian and I met on December 3, 2011 at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, NV.  My sister and I were there enjoying their annual trip to the NFR, and Brian was hauling horses across the country and just happened to stop in for the night.  It must’ve been fate, because we spent nearly every weekend after we met together, even though we were living hours apart. In August, Brian proposed in Evanston at the old train depot.   We are planning an outdoor ceremony for September 7, 2013 at my parents’ ranch near Lusk, WY. (Be sure to check out the awesome ‘save the date’ picture idea!)

Thanks again to Jamie, Brian and E&R Photography and Photobooth in Casper for sharing this beautiful engagement with us — and congratulations to Jamie & Brian! If you’d like to share your beautiful Wyoming wedding or engagement story with us, shoot us a line at brides@wyomingweddingsonline.com!
