Congrats to Jessica & Casey on their August 16, 2014 wedding up in Big Sandy! Jessica & I met on Facebook through our Wyoming Weddings page, where we learned just how small Wyoming really is… My grandparents and Jessica’s grandparents have cabins on the same one track, rock-filled road near Big Sandy Recreation Area! Jessica was in the process at the time of planning her and Casey’s unique wedding – and we’re so excited to feature it on our blog today! Thanks to our dear friend Stephanie of Grateful Heart Photography in Rock Springs for sharing these images & story with us…

I love when a photographer has an opportunity to photograph a true Wyoming couple on their wedding day. On August 16, 2014, I had the pleasure of photographing Casey and Jessica  in their outdoor ceremony in the wide open spaces of Big Sandy Openings. Most couples use a candle or sand ceremony to unite their love as one. This couple, using their hunting archary equipment, shot their arrows into a heart shaped target to unite them as one. The bride made her beautiful bouquet of flowers, as well as the both of them made their decorations for their big day.  They were officiated in marriage by Lenny Kaumo and the reception dinner was provided by Boschetto’s European Market and Deli.

Thanks to Stephanie of Grateful Heart Photography in Rock Springs for sharing this spotlight with us! Here’s what Stephanie had to say about this sweet couple & their special day…

“This is Clay and Heidi! They were married May 25, 2013 at Lakeside Lodge in Pinedale, Wyoming. They didn’t have a bridal party — but since this was both their second marriage, they had their children on both sides sitting by their sides for hte ceremony. The bride’s two sons gave her away. All together, they are a family of nine! Clay has three children and heidi has six (she had quadruplets!). Big, loving family — and I have to say they were all wonderful children & very well mannered. They should be very proud parents! I really liked this family. They are living in Nebraska, but the bride is from Rock Springs.

Services were provided by… Hair: Kelly at JAK’s Boutique, Pinedale; Flowers: Jacee at JAK’s Boutique, Pinedale; Catering:  Lakeside Lodge, Pinedale; Cake:  Diane Alexander, Old Wyoming Catering

Thanks again to Stephanie of Grateful Heart Photography in Rock Springs for providing this spotlight! CONGRATS to Clay & Heidi and best of luck to you and your sweet combined family! What a beautiful thing to see.

This is a great reminder of that!

WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Erika & Nathan’s Sweetwater County Wedding

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE:  www.wyoweddings.com

Nathan & Erika’s wedding on September 10, 2011 (9-10-11!) was held at two great Sweetwater County locations — the ceremony took place at Expedition Island in Green River, with the reception at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs.  Their photography was captured by the amazing David Huber of Worland.  Erika has some great bits to share from the day and check out their images — REALLY cool ideas, especially the Cold Stone buffet for dessert! (LOVE that!)

Erika’s memories of the day…

Ice Cream Bar:  We aren’t really ‘cake’ people and while at a bridal show in SLC, I discovered Cold Stone’s catering options.  Once back in Rock Springs, I proposed the same possibility at our local branch.  We worked with the store manager to create our own serving options at the reception.  The reviews from our guests were glowing!  Everyone loved creating their own ice cream dessert using our favorites 🙂  especially the kids.

One of my favorite memories: We planned to do a fun dancing entrance into the reception with our line.  After the rehearsal dinner, we did a practice run with music at the hall and the idea didn’t go over well.  However, when we arrived to the reception hall after the ceremony, everyone was in their places and Nathan and I were able to watch them enter into the hall to the dance floor.  It was FANTASTIC!  The kids started it off with a lot of excitement and each pair that followed had their own choreographed routine created in less than 24 hours.  The guests loved it and it was a wonderful way to jump start the party.  A vision I will never forget.

Another item I will never forget are the poms!  It took a large group effort to make all of the 160 colorful tissue paper poms that covered the reception ceiling.  Two days of folding, cutting and prepping the colorful design with family members.  Then an entire day of ‘poofing’ and hanging the poms around the hall with our great groomsmen and bridesmen.  We were all sick of them by the time we were done, but it was worth it to have my vision come true!  Now the poms are a running joke among our friends and family.

Our ceremony at Expedition Island was set up by the men of the wedding party – groomsmen, bridesmen, fathers and the groom.  I gave them the pieces and they designed it all and turned out beautifully!  Even better than I had imagined.

WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Green River Love, a Puppy Dog & Pink Shoes…

LINK BACK TO OUR WEBSITE & FIND A WY VENDOR:  www.wyoweddings.com

Thanks to Janelle Rose Photography of Cheyenne for our wedding spotlight this week! She’s got a fun story from Green River — meet Kade & Katie!

From Janelle:  Katie and Kade met through Kade’s sister. Knowing that Kade was somewhat shy, she insisted that they meet, and helped things along by inviting them both to dinner at her house. She invited them “just as friends,” but they have been together ever since.

Katie and Kade were married July 9th, 2011 at Centennial Park in Green River. Katie’s grandmother was unable to make it to the wedding, so Katie wore her grandmother’s necklace in honor of her and as her “something borrowed” for the big day. Katie wore the first dress she tried on. When she saw the pistachio-colored sash on the dress, she knew exactly how she wanted to complement it; with pink heels…watermelon-colored, to be exact!

There were many happy tears during the day, plenty of sunshine, and great food by the talented Gomez family. The reception featured a photo booth, which made for plenty of laughs and memories. And last, but not least, there was a dog named Digger-K who showed up somewhat grudgingly later on in the night for her portrait with her doting parents.

Thanks Janelle for sharing this special day with us!  (I am in LOVE with those shoes and that cake topper…) Do you have a wedding or engagement spotlight to share? Color & Season Can Coexist! By Sarah Merrill

LOOKING FOR OUR WEBSITE? www.wyomingweddingsonline.com

Today Sarah Merrill of SuiteBlooms in Cheyenne brings us a very interesting topic…how to make your color & season agree.  Read on to find Sarah’s hints and how she works with nature’s color palette to incorporate the colors that YOU really want in your wedding!

Be sure to visit Sarah on her Facebook page, where you can ask her questions and visit with her!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/SuiteBlooms/272721623120

Color and Season- Your biggest question answered here:

“I’m getting married in September, but I don’t want my bride’s maids to wear pumpkin orange dresses. My favorite color is lilac, and I really want that to be my main color, but how is that going to look in the fall at an outdoor wedding? My mom said that lilac doesn’t work with fall, and that I have to make my colors match the season. Am I really stuck with brown, yellow, and orange?”

I often hear this question from a stressed, overwhelmed bride wearing a horrified look on her face. As a bridal consultant, florist and a friend – this moment is crucial. I take a big deep breath – in then out – smile and reassure her that colors and seasons are friends and that we can make them get along. Then I explain to her that a few well chosen accent colors can develop a color scheme that is beautiful and also compliments the season. I tell the bride, “Your mom may be picturing lilac, baby chick yellow, and bunny’s nose pink – a very spring palate. Let’s show her how beautiful lilac can be in the fall.”

Now, I’ll walk through the process of choosing secondary colors, so you can learn to create your own color scheme that harmonizes the wedding color you want most with the season you choose for your wedding. First we need to consider the wedding’s setting. The grass and trees in Wyoming in September are still fairly green especially if the location you choose uses a sprinkler system. Some of the grass and leaves on the Aspen trees will start turning yellow. Tree trunks bring in the brown while the flowers, bushes and shrubs bring in the dreaded pumpkin orange.

Here is the representation of our September outdoor color palate:

Now let’s add the lilac to see our starting point:

Ok, at this point I can see why Mom is worried. The lilac does not seem to work with the colors that are occurring in nature. Let’s add a deeper tone of purple that will bring the lilac into harmony with the richer colors of fall:

That simple change makes a big difference! Now let’s add in a pop of chartreuse to give it a lively feel, and a deep masculine chocolate brown to ground the color scheme:

Now Fall and Lilac work together! This is just one example of how simply balancing your entire color palate can create the wedding colors of your dreams, in any season. I suggest using paint chips to determine which colors will work together, then make sure the color you choose is available in your dresses, linens and other necessary items before you get your heart set on any specific tone. Also remember that flowers can be difficult to match perfectly. For example, some red flowers have a warmer tone, others a cooler tone. If an exact match to your blooms is a high priority to you, start by visiting your florist with your color samples. If you have questions, comments or just need an expert’s help, feel free to email in to this blog or to me directly at Suiteblooms@gmail.com. I will do my best to help you, and your question may be featured in future posts on this blog!

Take a look at the great finds that work within this palate!

Meet ERIKA — a Real WY Bride!

PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE! www.wyomingweddingsonline.com

We continue introducing you to our new blog team with the addition of ERIKA, a real Wyoming bride!  Erika will be sharing her joys, stresses, advice and questions with all of us — think you’re alone in this process? Far from it! Want to share your experiences with Erika? Got questions or your own stories to relate on our blog? Contact us at brides@wyomingweddingsonline.com!

Meet Erika! And thanks to Erika for sharing her experiences with us!

Hello!!  My name is Erika and coming this September I will finally marry my love, Nathan.  Our relationship will reach seven years a month before our wedding day.  Some quick facets:  Nathan’s brother is married to my local best friend; we worked at the same complex for two years before we started dating (different departments); and finally we’ve spent approximately four years as a long distance couple.  We’ve had a lot of ups, downs, lefts and rights during these last 6 ½ years, but one thing we actually agree on is that those times are what made our relationship as strong as it is today… and the reason we know it is the right time to wed.  Cue the ‘ahhh’.  Even though I didn’t think it was possible, Nathan found a way to surprise me at Christmas by proposing in front of my family (my grandmother LOVED it).  The even bigger surprise is that he gave me the iPad that came with his purchase at the jewelry store!  I’m nice enough to share with him. 🙂

Once the ring slid upon my finger, I was in full planning mode.  I’ve been thinking about, talking about and planning weddings for about ten years now.  Now that my own wedding is a reality, I’ve become highly indecisive with too many ideas.  Plus, since I’ve been talking about it for so long, the expectations for my wonderful wedding are Huge and I don’t want to disappoint!  I know, I know, it’s our wedding and it doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks, but I still want this wedding to scream Erika & Nathan!!

Because of this need to ‘show-off’ my faux wedding planning skills, we originally wanted our wedding in Salt Lake City.  We thought it would be more convenient for out of town guests, have more options for vendors and a bit more glamour.  After doing hours and hours of research online, we went to SLC to review these fabulous venues.  It was a quick trip because after a few moments at each site, nothing impressed us enough to expend the extra cost.  Plus, we’d have to cut down our massive guest list.  At the end of the day we took the advice of every wedding book I’ve ever read and reviewed our priorities.  For us, it is more important to include as many of our friends and family on this big day than to have a venue that means nothing to us.  Now, don’t get me wrong, the sites are wonderful and anyone is lucky to get married there.  They just wouldn’t fit our large families or personalities.  So now we are getting married at work!  Yep, we booked the wedding at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs, where we first started our relationship.  Meaningful, holds a lot of people and a blank canvas for us to blast with bright colors!

I’m excited to share my planning experiences with anyone who reads.  I know I’m just a typical bride-to-be swarmed by wedding ideas and it’s going to be fun to muddle through this together!

Thanks Erika! If you’re also planning a Sweetwater County wedding, be sure to visit our upcoming Bridal Expo at the Homewood Suites in Rock Springs! Saturday, February 19, 12-4 and FREE for EVERYONE! Come pick up a planning guide, register for door prizes, SEE OUR FASHION SHOW AT 2 PM, and meet Wyoming wedding professionals excited to help YOU!
